Terms and Conditions

The competition is open to teachers and pupils in both Primary and Secondary Schools (State and Independent) across the UK only.

There are four categories within the competition - the tallest sunflower and the biggest sunflower head for both Primary and Secondary schools.

Measurements of sunflowers must be taken as follows: sunflower height – from the soil to the tip of the tallest petal. Diameter of sunflower head – from the clock position 11.45 to 12.15, including petals.

Schools are encouraged to record their largest sunflower’s dimensions on the ‘Watch Them Grow’ website each week, however in order to win, schools must record the sizes of their sunflowers at least every four weeks.

The last day of growth will be Monday 21st September 2009. A compulsory update must be made on the website no later than 12 noon on this date.

Judges will visit the top 3 schools in each category in the week beginning Monday 21st September 2009 to verify that the sunflower in question (which must still be earthed) is indeed at least the published size.

If a primary or secondary school grows the tallest sunflower that also has the largest sunflower head, this school will be awarded the prizes in both categories.

Each winner will be notified in writing by Friday 25th September 2009. Details of the

prize-winners will be available after 25th September 2009 on the ‘Watch Them Grow’ website, or you can write including a SAE to: Renaissance Learning Marketing Department, 32 Harbour Exchange Square, London E14 9GE.

The decision of the judges appointed by Renaissance Learning will be final and no further communication will be entered into.

Winners may be requested to take part in promotional activity and Renaissance Learning reserves the right to use the names and addresses of winners and their photographs in any publicity.

There is no purchase requirement to enter the competition and there is no charge to register.

No data will be disclosed to a third party without the individual’s prior consent.
